Around the Network - Apologies, Intimacy, and Business
HighCallingBlogs is a collective family of writers who are impacting the world through the written word. Just poke around the network and you’ll be both amazed and challenged. Along with the help of Monica Sharman, I found some real gems this month:
Mike St. Pierre’s post, "The Power of a Good Apology," particularly struck me. This seems to have been a long summer of very public apologies.
It started in the business world. Toyota CEO Akia Toyoda famously cried on television, expressing remorse for the auto manufacture’s safety problems. And British Petroleum CEO Tony Hayward sauntered up the microphone to try and make amends for the Gulf Coast oil spill.
The sports world was rocked when Tiger Woods morphed from superstar to a man of contrition, confessing his sins on television and pleading for forgiveness.
The pundits have scrutinized, criticized and analyzed these apologies. Were they genuine? Were they complete? At some point, we will all need to apologize to coworkers, neighbors, friends and family. Read “The Power of a Good Apology.”
Many of us are holding on to our jobs with all our energy, but Cheryl Smith suggests that “God might just be moving you to a new thing.” She even gives us “Five Signals” that change is coming. Following that theme, Every Square Inch gives some sage advice about “How a Christian Leaves His Job.”
Karen Swim of Words for Hire wrote a fabulous piece called “Intimacy and Business” about how a “hook up” can kill a romance – and a business. There’s plenty of application that we can apply to any aspect of our life – because true and meaningful relationships are long-term.
Donna at Random Thoughts asked the question, “Is God a Liar?” Her analysis is intriguing and will cause you to rethink the implications of doubt.
Sandra Hesah King in a post over at Beholding God recounts every scar on her body – from those caused by childhood chicken pox to a recent gall bladder surgery. She acknowledges deeper scars. “Memories I want to forget. Wipe away. But I can't.” Don’t miss her post, “I Have These Scars”
Kay Strom pokes a hole in the overseas “welfare-type ministries” that drop off the goods and then run on to the next impoverished village. In “How Do We Change Hearts,” a tribal leader told her that while the help is appreciated, he will never forget that the missionaries didn’t even stay for tea.
Becky Ramsey takes the familiar family decal on the back of the minivan and wrote a humorous and delightful piece called, “The Family Scorecard.”
And lastly, Lisa-Jo, the Gypsy Mama asks “If Blogging Makes You Feel Small.” It does for me, especially as I review hundreds of High Calling blog posts for this months’ roundup. What an amazing group. Smart. Funny. Talented. Inspired. Keep writing.
