Beauty Bonds Us (or, how to do RAP)
L.L. here, considering the question: what brings bloggers together? Among other things, beauty.
Poet Mary Karr says beauty drew her dysfunctional family together. "Poetry was the family's religion. Beauty bonded us."
Here at High Calling Blogs, we're not looking to turn poetry into religion. But Karr's observations about the beauty and bonding-power of poetry ring true. She notes that church language works similarly among believers. "Uttering the same noises in unison is part of what consolidates a congregation..." (from Sinners Welcome)
Every Friday, we offer the opportunity to utter the same noises together through the sharing of our poetry in Random Acts of Poetry. People have asked me how to participate. It's simple. Just post a poem on YOUR BLOG, on any topic during the week and let me know about it through the HCB Contact Form (be sure to select my name) or through my personal blog.
At some point I pick a poem or ten to feature. Sometimes you might notice a particular theme. That would be if I've offered a prompt over at my blog. But, again, you can write on any topic and we'll still link to you. (Of course we appreciate if you link to us in your RAP offering too. We also like it when you tag your post "High Calling Blogs" and "Random Acts of Poetry.")
So, let the bonding begin. I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice.
