PhotoPlay: Eye Swap

We were sitting in a corner street café, in early spring, when Clifford turned to me and asked: “What do you most want to understand in this life?” We sat in a lulled silence while I contemplated my answer.

Stirring the froth away from the side of the cappuccino cup, and watching it move sluggishly across the teaspoon, I suddenly thought of what I wanted, and it was less about understanding than it was about seeing.

“Clifford, I’d like to swap eyes with the people around me.”

"I’d like to see Legos through a little boy's eyes. I’d like to see pollen the way the Creator does when he watches it grow in every flower. I’d like to see the way you see language when you read a French book.

I want to understand, through seeing, what your perspective is."

PhotoPlay

That conversation took place several years ago, and now, once a month in PhotoPlay, I get a glimpse of what it must be like to zoom in through your eyes. This gift never ceases to fill me up.

Jessica and Tim, thank you for loaning your eyes to me and this photography community this month. You saw uniquely and helped us do the same:
