RAP: Sonnet Makes Grown Man Cry
L.L. here, with Random Acts of Poetry. This past week, I read some news about a celebrated poet. It struck me, the words that said so-and-so “has just been published” in such-and-such Amazing Literary Place. I thought that was very nice for the poet.
But then this idea sneaked in, a wondering… what if we talked about poets and poetry differently… what if we made room for those who haven’t been published in such-and-such Amazing Literary Places, based on the actual impact of their poems?
The news might read: joe-ordinary-poet’s morning haiku brought a woman to her knees; his free verse made a child laugh and try her own hand at poetry; his sonnet made a grown man cry.
For my part, Eric’s Image of Man, Image of God brought this ordinary lady to a place of quiet wonder and holy longing. And I hope that is not only nice for Eric but for you too, at this unassuming Friday poetry celebration…

In last Friday's reflection, I asked the question: Is it right to display art in places of worship? Ezekiel's vision of the ideal temple in Ezekiel 41 answers that question affirmatively. Today, I... Read More +
