I'm Sorry, Were You Trying to Say Something?

Between now and November 4, it's inevitable that you'll discuss politics with colleagues and friends. Whether you want to or not, and whether you're somewhat benighted (like me) or quite knowledgeable about it all, it seems impossible to avoid this topic.
