12 Days of Self-Promotion

L.L. here. Processing my thoughts on Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust.

Like power and leadership (nicely discussed by Bradley J. Moore in a recent post), we sometimes squirm at the thought of engaging in self-promotion — as if it were somehow a questionable endeavor.

Fact is, if you are a blogger, you need to engage in self-promotion. How else will we hear your voice, know you're there?

A caveat though. Talk too loud, too much, or ignore the good stuff others are doing... and self-promotion can easily backfire.

Anyway, back to Trust Agents, which puts this in perspective with excellent advice...

When establishing your presence online, be conscious of your own ego… work hard at promoting others 12 times as much as you promote yourself. Be sure you promote yourself, but make certain you have a reputation for praising others in a given community. p. 98

So here's a thought. Why not get a jumpstart on healthy self-promotion this December by highlighting at least 12 other bloggers in posts on your personal blogs? Kind of like the 12 days of Christmas with a techno-community touch. (Feel free to take our badge so we can can share in your promo efforts.)

Can't wait to see your Christmas lists. :)
