PhotoPlay: For Simplicity's Sake
Simplicity in an image doesn't just happen. It takes effort and time to isolate an object, to position it and to capture it in a way that brings its truest character to life.
Most often the isolation process involves removing distractions that might otherwise steal a viewer’s attention.
Simplifying a photo is like cleaning a mirror. You remove the grime to reveal more of the subject being reflected. The subject itself doesn't change; its prominent characteristics are simply made easier to see. Likewise, by removing the “grime” around an object in a photo, you bring its personality to life.

Notice the use of color in Monica’s "Mustard seeds" above and in Jessica’s "Purple" here. There are at most two or three colors in each photograph:

Notice where your eye settles in Emily’s "Ascension" and the angle at which this picture was taken:

Notice the light in Elaine’s "Thread" and how it accentuates:
This week you have all drawn attention to a particular aspect of an object and I found myself really looking into your images. Thank you for participating. Enjoy the gallery below and join me again in June!
