Calling All Barbie Lovers (and Unlovers)

L.L. here, with a prompt for Random Acts of Poetry.

On Tuesday night, partly in celebration of Marcus Goodyear's new book Barbies at Communion, we held a Twitter party with the theme of... Barbies!

It was a wild time, ranging from the ridiculous to the poignant. Barbie has a way of sparking words.

Anyway, this week it's your turn. Write a poem about, or from the perspective of, a Barbie. For a link and possible feature, drop your post URL in any comment box at my place by Thursday, June 10th, so I don't miss you.

Oh, and Marcus's book only has one Barbie poem, but it's a good one. Another good poem, that particularly brings me peace, is "Sabbath." Marcus has a way with words too...

Sabbath

Shed no tears for these empty buildings
around the grass field like a private
forgotten park. They will not feel lonely
next week when a new group arrives
on the wings of petroleum and expectation.
Sometimes emptiness lets us all rest
a bit and take a breath. Throw sticks
for fat dogs who run until their panting
clicks, and they wobble, drunk on fetch,
behind the boy on his way to the river
alone to dangle his feet in clear water
where no one has come today to swim.

For a chance to win a copy of Marcus's new book, come to the Barbies at Communion Giveaway at Tweetspeak Poetry and leave a comment.
