Ray left teaching at age forty to attend graduate school. Money was tight, and he worked part-time at the city's baseball stadium. Ray had twice pitched his team to the College World Series championship, but now picking up trash and cleaning mounds had little to do with his past glories. Professional players on the field seemed to look straight through him.

"Doesn't that bother you?" a friend asked Ray. "Being treated like you don't exist?"

He answered, "No, what they think doesn't define who I am."

This is Howard Butt, Jr. of Laity Lodge. Who you are is not a function of job description, or the impression you make. Your internal character, not a position or title, proves the high calling of our daily work.

For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

(Deut. 7:6)

We are sometimes better off if there are people that just ignore you and as if you aren't around? the situation I found my self in with some people I really was better off because those people caused trouble at work and are no longer there. The Lord warned me to distance myself from them and I listened. There are others also that have a click and exclude any one that they don't see socially, Make your own friends.

We are accountable to God daily. God taught us to live in harmony - 1 John 4:16b "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him". If I were Ray, I would not be bother with their action. I will be opened if they come to me. However, I would distance myself if I know my weakness - fall/sin.

This is something I have to struggle with from time to time on my job. Who and what I am is far greater than my position as Administrative Assistant and when people don't recognize the treasure in this earthen vessle it hurts. But God showed me that they are rejecting that light and treasure of Him and me and it isn't personal. To pray truly bless my enemies realizing how empty their lives are and how much they need the Lord.

Wasn't it Mother Teresa who said "Do small things with great love?"
