Transcript:

Near the end of his final semester, a college senior named Skip walked into business class and received a pop quiz. Skip was a brilliant student and breezed through every question—until the last one: What is the name of the woman who cleans this building? This must be a joke, Skip thought. He had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was short, dark, looked old. Why in the world would he know her name? He handed back the quiz with that answer blank.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Do you ever treat people as if they’re invisible? In the tests of real life, every person deserves our attention and respect, even if all we do is learn her name and say hello—in the high calling of our daily work.

Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.

learning a person's name is one of the highest honors you can bestow upon a person even if we meet them one time. first impressions are lasting impressions. taking the time to ask and memorize my name tells me that I was worth the effort it took at that moment to inquire it of me.

how in the heck are we going to learn every person's name ?

That's not terribly realistic, but I get the basic idea.

you never know what that means to someone-we live too fast paced. That's the excuse-I know I do that-just blow people off. For example a cashier in the "stuff getting place" i have made friends with her, now she knows me and I have gotten to know her-she looks for me and I get into her line-she tells me that she misses me when her line is too full.  everybody is important to our Lord.

To God every person is precious because we are made in His image. We not only give honor the the person, but also to God , when we take the time to acknowledge that individual. You never know what is accuring in that person's life. Our gracious Father God may want you to encourage, comfort, or build that person up. The little things sometimes make the biggest differences in a person's life. Blessings

I read this in Chicken Soup for the Soul years ago, her name was Doris. I have NEVER forgotten that story. I love it when people remember my name, so I try to give that same sense of caring to others I meet.
