In boiling water, carrots, eggs, and coffee beans all react differently. Carrots start out strong and hard but soon grow soft and weak. The liquid interiors of eggs harden. Coffee beans? Well, ground coffee beans turn that hot water into coffee.
In the hot waters of pain and adversity, what are you? The carrot that goes soft? The egg that hardens and grows stiff? Or the crushed coffee bean—which alters its very circumstances, releasing both color and aroma.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Workplaces have a way of heating up, too. When they do, what do we do? Lose our resolve? Harden our hearts? Or allow the heat to release our best selves? Hot situations are inevitable; their effect on us is not . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.(Ps. 51:8)

READER'S COMMENTS
Hi I'm afraid I grow soft and weak. I wish i didn't but that's me. And then when my boss jumps on me for doing things wrong at work because of my ADD I get all depressed. Anyone got any ideas on how you shake depression?

I have found that one of the devil's most used tools is when someone looses a loved one. I recently have been talking with a woman that lost her son in an accicdent. She describes him as a very good son that made all the right choices in life even though he was brought in a neighborhood of violence and crime. She is asking God why he took him.Why is it that we question God.In my opinion it is the devils tool to try and get all of those left bebind that are suffering with grief that the devil wants, plus his intentions are to make us question God so that he worms his way into their life.I believe that salvation is our first goal in life but I also believe that one topic that is not being dealt with enough is it is not God that causes us to hurt or feel abandoned. We need to be woke up to the tools that the devil uses in times of our sorrows. It is our choice to choose God and ask his son Jesus to come into our hearts and we will never be abandoned he gives us is holy spirit to comfort and to guide. What is wrong with society is such an easy solution. It is a spiritual warfare. it is real. I personally believe that God does not take us off of this world. That he will either be there at our death to lead us into heaven or to rebuke us. I do believe in the second coming.I just do not believe in statements such as;"Why God did you take my son?" I actually hope that if something happens to one of my children that God does take them. But I believe that God does not cause the car accident per se.He does not call the child to be kidnapped.
