When Mark was 13, his mom let him bake the crowning moment of their family's Thanksgiving meal—the pumpkin pie. She figured he couldn't mess up a recipe that depended on store-bought crust and canned pumpkin.
Despite the distraction of his favorite college football game, Mark successfully baked a beautiful golden brown pie. He proudly set it on the cabinet until dessert. Only after everyone took a bite was it clear that Mark had overlooked one essential ingredient: the sugar.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. In the haste of a busy world, it is easy to forget the most important ingredient. As you give thanks this year, be joyful! Don't forget the sugar that sweetens . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying . . .
"Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name."
