Spurs at Practice

Transcript

In his column, "20-Second Timeout," sportscaster Bill Schoening paints a behind-the-scenes picture of what makes a winning team.

During a preseason practice, the San Antonio Spurs were running offensive drills. On the sideline, veteran guard Brent Barry was reviewing plays with newcomer Michael Finley. Finley knows basketball, but every team has its own terminology and strategy. Barry briefed Finley on the San Antonio drills.

In the coming season, Finley would probably take some of Barry's playing time. But that wasn't the point. Both players know that championships are won by teams, not stars greedy for floor.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. And Schoening is right. In sports, in business, in life, winners put team victory first … in the high calling of our daily work.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!
