Mother of Nineteen
Susanna Wesley bore 19 children—including John, who founded the Methodist Church. Her husband was often absent—and at times her only means to pray privately was to cover her head with her apron.
“Help me, Lord,” Susanna would pray, “to remember that religion is not confined to the church or closet, nor exercised only in prayer and meditation, but that everywhere, I am in thy presence.” Chasing toddlers, teaching her children Latin and Greek, praying on the fly . . . she knew that God was unconfined and present in all her work.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge, reminded by a successful mother of 19 that whatever we’re doing, God is there . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
[David] said to them, "Is not the LORD your God with you? And has he not granted you rest on every side? For he has handed the inhabitants of the land over to me, and the land is subject to the LORD and to his people. Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the LORD your God."
