Henry messed up. Under a tough deadline, he miscalculated the numbers and put too low a price in his proposal. Of course, the client jumped on it. And, of course, Henry’s company lost money. Ouch. Heading to the conference room, Henry braced himself.
So what his boss did then was unexpected. He said: "Thanks for meeting a brutal deadline, Henry. You normally do good work—and just got ahead of yourself. Learn a lesson, and we’ll get the next one."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Proverbs reminds us that it’s to a person’s "glory to overlook an offense." The best way to help an employee rise from a foul-up may be to offer a hand-up…in the high calling of our daily work.
