Learning to Handle Success
In 1979, long before he was a Hall of Famer, Earvin "Magic" Johnson was one more well-regarded rookie with the Los Angeles Lakers. The living legend then was one of Magic’s teammates: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
As Magic tells the story, his first professional game came down to the last shot, and Kareem scored to win at the buzzer. Enthusiastically—wildly—Magic tore across the court and embraced Abdul-Jabbar, who calmly said, "Settle down, rookie. We still have eighty-one games to play."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Success is wonderful. Celebration is good. But timing is everything. Starting well only counts if you also finish well...in the high calling of our daily work.
The men in charge of the renovation worked hard and made steady progress.
They restored the Temple of God according to its original design and strengthened it.
