The Right Dose
These days it’s called “blood thinner”—a prescription medicine used widely to save or prolong life. A few decades ago, the same compound went by “rat poison.” That’s right: the prescription used today by millions, can also (in higher doses) shrink the rodent population.
So one man’s miracle drug is another man’s rat killer. And you know where I’m going...
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Almost no activity or pursuit is so good that it can’t be overdone. Hard work is good. So is leisure. Eating, travel, friends, church, computers, exercise, family: all good! But if you continually use them at the wrong dosage, something once life-giving can turn deadly...in the high calling of our daily work.
