PhotoPlay Gallery: The Kelly Effect

Susan cattails postimage-283.jpg

For PhotoPlay this month, I shared how the use of contre-jour helped me through a difficult time, and then asked you to try to imitate the effect with your camera. High Calling members, Mark Ettinger and Susan Etole, respectively, took the two featured photos above.

L.L. Barkat invited us to go a step further by writing a poem about why photography and poetry matter. Cindee Snider Re offered the following beautiful response:

Why Poetry?

Poetry is breath,
Image draped bare
Over ochre emotion

Finest strands of gold
Woven word by word,
Hue and breadth into life,
A palette of diamonds
Dripping from silver filigree,
Piercing points of

Liquid luminescence
Spilling depth across the page
Oxygen into life,
Moments,
Texture-rich,
Drenched in ink,

Vision born to light
This is Holy Grail

And why I write.

Daily Reflection From Laity Lodge

Beauty as a Signpost to God, Part 2

The fact that we can perceive things as beautiful, I believe, points to the existence of a God who loves beauty and created us in his own image. I talked about this in yesterday's reflection. Yet... Read More +
