Culture Link: The Influence of Scripture on Famous Literature
Author and New York Times contributor, Marilynne Robinson, reminds us, "The Bible is the model for and subject of more art and thought than those of us who live within its influence, consciously or unconsciously, will ever know."
Her piece on the Bible's impact on famous literature will require your attention, but its reward is the reminder that in a world of links and website statistics and marketing power and influence platforms and how many friends we have accumulated, the Spirit has outdone us all. The Bible has shaped our reading lives so profoundly, so pervasively, that not only will we never know its degree of influence, neither can we realize how often it passes right before our eyes.
I'm amazed by this.
