Good Photography Makes the Heart Hum

Blog / Produced by The High Calling

Doors slammed. Wind howled. Snow fell. Ice cracked. Cars crept. Litter box spilled. Fox chased and chickens ran. Pipes froze. Broadband faltered. Clients cancelled.

The day didn’t go as planned. By the end, I craved laughter and needed something to make me sing. That’s when I opened your images.

Do you know that you turned my day around?

“I don’t know what good art is. I don’t know what good photography is. I don’t know composition. I don’t know colour. I don’t know lighting. But I do know what stirs my heart. I do know what makes me linger over a photograph. And maybe that’s the mystery. I can’t verbalize why I think these photos are good art. Maybe they are. Maybe they aren’t. I’ll leave that to the experts. All I know is that they make my heart sing.”

Sherri-Dawn didn’t bother hiring a photographer and I most certainly don’t blame her; who would with a subject as hip as this one?

Genevieve’s image above captured the laughter I was craving, the song Sandra sings and the irony Sherri-Dawn found at her coffee table.

Sometimes photography means rule of thirds, revealing zoom and aperture excellence. But sometimes good photography is simply that which moves us. I’m so glad it made my heart hum this week.
